Title: Server hosting modified bikes - client auto crash
Post by: Asdrael on November 07, 2017, 08:42:50 PM
Hey,

Been slaving trying to figure out why the OEM wouldn't allow online play.

While a bracket was indeed missing in the sfx.cfg file of the 250 OEM, it didn't fix the issue.

Note: the mods were installed in the game folder old school style (not the new mod folder in C:/Documents/Piboso/...).

Steps:
It seems having more than 1 custom bike in the folder induces this crash. Not sure what else I can test to help now, let me know if I can do anything more.

(apologies for the server spam on the list, I was changing server name + port each time to make sure I had no conflict).

Edit: been given the advice by Vortex to clean up what I had left of "ghost" bikes and retry. On it atm.
Edit 2: references to temporary edf removed, no change. Still crashes.

I tried with just one bike (making sure it had the brackets) loaded onto the server but it crashes just the same for me? Which bike did you get working Asdrael?

RMZ450, FC350, YZF250 on the top of my head. Might be a few more. All those loaded on a dedicated server running from the same folder as the client (so no mismatch possible).

Which one did you try? I had an issue once because the server wasn't really shutting down even after doing "Quit" (check your taskbar). Might need to nuke it with TaskManager and/or change the name of the dedi server + do a port change in the server exe shortcut parameters.

As extra: before going to bed I looked at 2 other random bikes and compared all the "text" files (bike.cfg, bike.ini, gfx, sfx, etc etc) to the stock bikes. No difference or formatting issues found. The only significant difference (not only values) were:
- tyres as I'm pointing at another directory, but this was all copy-pasted from the RMZ 450 as base (which works).
- suspensions have more settings (20 instead of 15) but all of this hasn't been touched since beta5/6. Formatting appears correct after double checking.

I tried one of the 2003 RMs, can't remember which.

Maybe take one bike at a time from B6 (which all work oddly) make the same changes and test them one by one?

I started doing that. But that wouldn't explain why 2 bikes work on their own, but not simultaneously... I have friday off anyway, guess I found what I'm doing.

Still bugs me a lot that all bike work offline, but as soon as you get online it starts flipping out. My guess is it's either a very thorough file conformity check for online that spots an unimportant typo (like an extra return or space, but shit I'm even using Word compare documents at that point) that I haven't caught yet, simultaneous loading of .edf that crashes when edf have the same name even in different bikes (hey I'll check that tonight!), or... dunno yet, I'll try to come up with an idea.

Posted on the GPBikes forums too to see if anyone got a similar issue.

New report: someone with apparently a much better computer than me got up to 6 models loading at the same time (6 bikes on server, same 6 on client). But sometimes, fewer bikes crashed. And more than 6 auto crashed.

At this stage, this is starting to point at a client-related loading issue. Not sure I can do anything on my end.

@Piboso: let me know if you need a test server setup with some mods to test it out. May it have to do with not having temporary bike models anymore causing havoc in loading?

Problem most likely found and solved.

Running the last few tests, uploading the new pack and "solution" once finalized.

Let me just say that, even though it was missing a bracket, it was not my fault.

You're amazing Asdrael. Can't wait to see the OEM's in the servers again.

It's not my fault, not sandy's fault (actually never is, sandy is the best person in this community), and it's not me who found the solution. Chill :p

OEM post updated.

It appears the loading system when connecting to online sessions was changed, and causes client crashes when loading any significant amount of data. Using a memory access optimizer like LargeAdressAware.exe fixes the issue.
