Title: Unadilla 2016/17 (updated to Unadilla B7b on 23rd Nov)
Post by: 𝖙𝖋𝖈 on November 21, 2017, 08:09:29 PM
Hey hey!

Unadilla 2016 / 2017 (Unadilla B7b updated 23rd November).

It feels like I've spent more time on this than Red Bud. It's about as accurate as it gets without getting too obsessed about the off track areas.

In the interest of time, which I don't have too much of these days, I've really not put too much effort into the objects on this track. The off track is pretty basic, the pit area is plain with no tents and I've only modelled the main buildings. This doesn't take away from the experience at all though in my opinion, and I just wanted to get the track released instead of spending ages perfecting something that doesn't add to the ride.

Couple of cool things are the lake and the windows, as I learnt how to add the reflection shader with a custom environment map to track objects, and of course the track normal map which kind of mimics an off season dry /  slightly ridden surface. The deformation get's hectic here.

Enjoy!

Updated version 23rd November 2017. Removed normal layer on top and added pitboards.

First off thanks for the beer  ;D

So what's with the shiny textures? I didn't have any problems there. Can anyone else confirm this? Maybe screenshot?

I know this really doesn't belong here but now the server just gives Connection Timeout. With other servers it won't do this. how can I fix this or can I fix this?

For the record I run with all graphics up except for anisotropic filtering on 2, and antialiasing on 2. The rest is turned on or on max.

I don't have Beta 7b yet..

Glad you're all enjoying it. I'm going to try and release a version tonight without the normal map overlay. That should get rid of shiny track some have and make track size smaller, and possibly smoother online.

Still, it works fine for me but I'd rather everyone can enjoy it without the little problems.

Nice work, I had noticed the shiny dirt thing but was too busy ripping to let it bother me.  ;D

I've turned down the deform a bit on that server as it seemed to chop up real quick.

Put it on my one of my servers last night but it would just crash our games upon loading.. I have a good pc that I built and run everything max. Should I turn down some settings or are there any other things I can do to fix it?
BTW: the track is sick TFC, awesome work man.

Yea and remember the new tyres deform much faster, which is sweet and more realistic..but of course if it causes a mess then its good we have control over the deform speed server side.

Happens on all tracks but is there any way making jump faces more resilient to rutting than the rest of the track? I think it could be fair to say that jumps are made of more compacted dirt and certainly not loose dirt on real tracks. Maybe it's already done but jumps still get nasty while the rest of the track can be very good to ride with the same deformations.

I'm having replay lag issues on this track with free roam cam and trackside cam. I just finished testing other tracks to see if the same thing happens, nope, just Unadilla is giving me the replay lag. Also the camera movement in free roam is very slow compared to the other tracks. I only tested the free roam cam and trackside cam. Anyone else experiencing this?

It's not something I've given much thought to. To be honest I've complained about the ruts on jumps before but never thought about how to combat the problem.

I guess the problem occurs more on jumps because there is more pressure on the floor from the bike when hitting a jump face, but likewise as the suspension rebounds and the wheels start to get light on the lip, the deformation becomes less causing an abrupt stop. This gives me a major case of the noseys.

I can experiment with harder jump faces at some point. What I'd rather see though is some tweaking to the deformation rate when on an incline, as generally speaking inclines are made of sterner stuff anyway be that a man made jump face or a hill.

Well, if anyone was a bit inclined to try stuff out, I guess the inverse of the derivative of the heightmap would prove to be a nice top material layer... (or rather, the overlay of the partial derivatives for both X and Y). That would thin out everything that has an abrupt slope change, and keep everything that is flat-ish deep.

Something like this ( http://eat3d.com/forum/tips-tricks-and-free-videos/derivative-map-photoshop-actions ), you'd to turn G and B to whitescale and overlay those I guess...
