Title: USGP of Motocross @ Carlsbad Raceway
Post by: F5_TORNADO on December 21, 2021, 09:16:32 AM
Anyone remember that course? Carlsbad would be a sick place to host an only 500cc 2 stroke race, or just run the whole grand prix, 125's, 250's, and 500's, 2 strokes only (because there weren't any racing 4 strokes back then).

You mean something like this? haha
Unfortunately I've been real busy as of late so I haven't been able to work on it much, and to add to that I've got like 7 other random tracks all at varying stages that I keep bouncing between, I do have a lot more for this track, vintage style billboards, the old walk bridges and score shakes, looking to make a couple vintage campers and box vans too.  My next major phase is to get the trees in and start getting the textures fine tuned.

Oh man, that would be sweet. The track is already looking good. Don't forget the steep tabletop at the finish. I can't tell the scale of the map, but I remember the Carlsbad freeway (big downhill) was pretty steep and long. I can't wait to ride this one though. Keep up the great work. It's looking good.

Trust me I've spent many of hours watching and re-watching any video I could find on coverage of this track,  the Carlsbad freeway is defiantly steep, this track is fast but also as to scale as I can get.  Devils drop (the steep tabletop) at the finish wasn't exactly a table in the early days as much as a leveled off drop jump (so kind of a table lol),  it seems a lot more about the drop off than the "jump"  hence the name.

Holy crap dude. That is awesome! Love the cracked dirt on the sides. It portrays how dry that track was. I can't wait to see the finished product with shrubbery and trees. You've done a damn good job already on it.

I used to ride out at the Ranch in Anza. Mark Peters built a Carlbad replica out there. Its pretty accurate. The video is not me or mine

Was hoping someone would make this. Excited and look forward to laps on this. An old school pack of bike would be so cool on this.

I have been learning a lot more about blender and object creation (admittedly from not bothering with it in the past) to a point I wanted to redo all of my original objects and upgrade the textures, still a WIP but I'm starting to get real excited about this project overall.  I also have some trees and bushes not pictured that fit the SoCal vibe that I was really happy with the way they turned out.

Just wanted to give an update, as this project is more about me learning/re-learning things so there's no real deadline, I originally wasn't sure if I was even gonna release this track but now with the interest I feel it is worth it, but with that said I'm a protectionist and I always find things I can fix, so bare with me if it feels slow lol.

I really hope you finish and release this track, as it was one of my local tracks. So sad to see it go, but now excited that someone may bring it back. If I can't ride it irl, then in MX Bikes is good enough.  :)

Here's a small update with some the objects I've been working and the textures updated, I still have a few things I want to do, finish the grass, match the trees, create a sky/backdrop, and few more objects need to be made, but I'm really pleased with how things are coming along.

Awesome progress! If this is a small update, then what will a big one look like?!?! :o  Seeing coverage of the Carlsbad GP on ABC's Wide World of Sports in the early 70's as a kid really captured my imagination (Unadilla's grass start too!) with the huge up and down sections with so much elevation change. I still watch YouTube clips of it and Superbikers too lol. There's been a couple attempts to recreate it in real life and thanks for doing this virtual one! 8)

A lap around the track so far,  sorry about the YouTube compression, it really hinders the details but it's still a good  look at how it is going.  I actually just got back home from a road trip out in the southwest and was able to convince my wife to go to where the track was, pretty neat to see, from where we stood I could make out devils drop, the first and second turn and first straight.

DUDE!! Seriously, this is probably THE most realistically detailed track I have ever seen on MX Bikes. I literally have hairs standing up on my arms and goosebumps on the accuracy of this track.

Hey everyone don't worry track is still on its way, life got in the way the last few months but was able to start chipping away again just the other day on some more stuff, I got real burnt out making vehicles a while back, totally unnecessary I know but once I got going I wanted to get the few things I had in my head made lol. Still have a few smaller things I want to get finished trying to find good images of more time period looking fans but its a bit of a challenge ha. Here's a look at the vehicles, I have more colorways just not in this shot.

Ha Ha, that's classic. Don't forget "Trick Race Fuel", and "HPS Oils". I commend you on your dedication to this. This is purely awesome just seeing the level of detail you are putting into this track. Thank you.

I don't have an exact date yet unfortunately, summers are always a busy time for me so I just haven't had the time to get the stuff done that I need to so the track is race ready, last thing I wanna do is half ass it on the finish line lol.  Don't worry it is coming though, at least by the end of the summer!

Hey bro, it's past the end of summer (hehe). Any idea of a release date. Starting to get bored of MX Bikes.

@kawirider276...  You should be very proud of what you have created thus far, from the pics, your track looks better than majority of the tracks that are released in the community.  I have worked in 3d animation and modeling in the Film industry for around a decade and it takes time to master this stuff.  I plan on making a lot of tracks and assets for the tracks, as well as I would like to model some bikes as well.  I have only worked in Maxon C4d and I recently opened Blender and it is a lot different than C4d, so I am taking my time to learn Blender more before I move forward.  Great job bro, love how it looks, very pleasing to the eye.

Sincerely,
Rossy

P.S.  I am a "Perfectionist"[you need to replace the "f" with a "t"(courtesy of: The Grammar Police :o )] Sorry, just had to since no one has called it out, it was bugging me that it went unnoticed. All fun and games though, Keep up the great work, as I can't wait till I get the chance to play this track of yours.

Small update,  I know I know its been a while.  I spent most of the summer away from a computer so any work I was doing came to a screeching halt,  by about November I had time to start working again and with a fresh set of eyes and a bit more knowledge, I needed to make some changes there are a lot of things wrong with this track yet.
Some things I am working on
-Reducing the amount of layers (there are 14)  I have to redo all the layer makes in a new way to help reduce that down to around 5-8
-A lot the objects were made very quick and with little knowledge of blender and object optimization that need to be re worked and some even redone all together.
-I have been doing a lot of work on much smaller projects (backyard supercross tracks and such)  to learn new ways to achieve the play-ability that the best tracks have in this game (making ruts and using Photoshop for better precision).
-I have also learned a lot more involving the normal and spec maps that just kept confusing me before,  so there's a whole bunch of things I need to go back and check with textures.

I want to make sure this isn't just some piece of eye candy but actually a track people want to spend time racing each other on,  keeping some of the amazing history of our sport alive.

I appreciate the interest in the track immensely, it truly started as just a personal project to get back into tack-making as I loved doing as a kid and has really kind of blown my mind that people are into the old school as much as I am!

Thank you all,
kawi-

This thing is coming I swear!
P.S. I can't wait till ya'll see what I got cooking up next  ;)

There he is!! SO what are the chances of a track like me and rider like what you created and teased us with like of having a you know... braaaaap brap brap it up?  And I dont want to hear that one and a million talk, because I have been lead on with that banter before....  Nah, but all jokes aside, glad we were able to get you to come back and give this project the attention it needs to be able to leave the nest and fly free  on to the MXB-mods site, hehe. ;D   ;)
