Title: Passing time
Post by: onlyonetone on April 05, 2014, 04:07:07 AM
I'm just curious as to what everyone is doing to pass the time between updates and until the release. I myself have been playing GP Bikes a lot to get  an idea of how MXB will work.

I just bought Dayz and have been playing that with a friend i met on there. Although its pretty rage inducing but it does get me sucked into the gameplay that takes away whole days at a time. Today i forgot to eat lunch because i was so into it  ;D

DayZ killed an entire month of my life ha. Forza 5 always gets my love a few times a week. Haven't played BF in awhile. I may spend my off day doing that.

You obviously have not watched videos on it.. You are the goat and you go around FSU on everything. You can headbutt cars and they explode and its a game ment to have a bunch of bugs so you see things clipping into eachother and the physics is hilarious and theres not really any way to explain it.

This should answer any questions you have:

How bad is it Goat Sim is wasting time for MXB? I mean really......no other game is good enough!

Thats how good MXB will be ;D
You're making a pretty big assumption on something you haven't even played yet, how do you know it's gonna be THAT good straight away? Remember, when the game is released it will be far from finished, so it might not be everything you are expecting it to be

Have u played GP Bikes? Have u seen videos?

Im didnt imply it will be an "all emcompasing" simulation ;)

But best mx sim out there (even in alpha, hell...... pre-alpha) i can surely expect!

No doubt about it. Not an assumption.
What you are saying is exactly what I mean. You are claiming it to be the best sim for motocross out there, yet you haven't played it just seen development videos, that is an assumption to a tee. GP bikes is amazing yes, but to recreate a motocross simulation is completely different. There's no doubt piboso and snappe are going to do a great job, but to claim it as the "best mx sim out there (even in alpha" is a massive assumption. Until I actually play the game, mxs is the number one motocross simulation without a doubt, and to say otherwise is just dumb.

Stop arguing. Let him think what he wants to. I have pretty high hopes for MXB as well. Not saying how great it will be until I play it. But from GP bikes and the videos and updates. I like to think it will form in to something great over time.

Who cares if thats his assumption? And who are you to think you can tell him otherwise? I know what you are saying and can see why it could annoy but there's no need to be an arse about it cus you feel you have a loyalty with Mx sim,its ok you are allowed to like other bike games.

i don't have a loyalty to mxs, it's just to claim that mx-bikes will be the best game before you even play it is just stupid.

Also I'm not being pessimistic, i'm being a realist, I don't see how you can justify calling it the best game out of all mx games when you have not even played it yet.

Well "the best mx game out there" is a subjective statement. But I have to agree MXB will most likely succeed. You know how I can tell? Because if you have any experience with motocross you can visually see right away MX Simulator is close, but no cigar. Riding motocross since I was three, I can tell you immediately if something looks wonky. From the two relatively dated videos we have, the only thing out of place visually is how the bike's bars seem almost too perfectly stable in cornering. But, having played GP Bikes getting familiar with how the game just functions, I'm confident in assuming MXB will probably take my vote on best MX Sim. All I'm saying is I'll be VERY shocked if I'm wrong.

By the way, correct me if I'm mistaken, but I'm pretty sure Piboso said the alpha will be pretty close to what you can expect from the full release in terms of how the game will play.

I'm pretty sure he said that as well.

As of right there is only one other motocross simulation game and just comparing videos. The sound, the graphics, and the physics look much better in MXB.

I still love the other game. But like I said I have high hopes for this. Plus competition will do nothing but better both games.

Anyways, we are quite possibly just a week or two from release. How hyped is everyone? I know I am.

My latest pass-time had been reading the past-time thread. I must say being a spectator in arguements is much more fun then being in it. I for one am not expecting ANYTHING from MXB yet. Its pre-alpha, and to assume would be wrong in my opinion. Here in Canada, assuming is like expecting a snowstorm and not having to go to work, then waking up and realizing that Canada's retarded weather patterns struck again and there was no storm. Realizing you gotta go to work. I would much rather not know about a storm, and wake up surprised to find my front door unable to open because of too much snow. (Oh darn, can't go to work..) #Win.

Just my opinion. Going back on topic, ive recently got in a heated debate with my brother on which controller is best. 3rd party controllers, and he is a console kinda guy, so sadly "Mouse and keyboard" is out of the question. He a wannabe trickshotter, and i keep telling him controllers suck, but he wont budge. I started helping him find a good controller, but he wants a scuf because Faze is sponsered by them. (Lol)

While I was searching for a controller I found one by Razer that I think will solve the problem about not having enough buttons for games like this, where you are unable to use mouse and keyboard.
I did my research and it has a respectible rep so far, being launched in 2013. Razer Sabertooth. It has 4 macro trigger/paddle type things on the back of the controller, and 2 more macro buttons just past the bumpers. These macros are all designed so you can use them without taking your thumbs off the joyticks. You can map the macro buttons to whatever control you want, and change them with an OLED screen on the controller. So for example i can set the 4 d-pad buttons to the back paddles, and be able to use them for gp/mx-bikes without removing my thumbs. Its kinda hard to explain. You can also program the sensitivity of the analog sticks. One of the coolest features though is the braided detachable cable, really nice. It serves as a xbox 360 controller or PC. Im just not sure what drivers it uses or if it will be supported. Im really tempted to buy it though because i play alot of pc games that are impossible with keyboard and mouse. Check it out, tell me what you guys think.
Its basically a scuf, but more bells and whistles and you can reprogram the macros really easily. Also much cheaper, coming in around 80-90$

I'd like to try that controller out. Seems pretty legit.

I have an idea to make a mx controller. I'm going to get a cheaper wheel and actually at handle bars to it at the bottom part of the wheel so it actually sways like in real life.  Also, already working on a prototype for the throttle and clutch.
Title: Re: Passing time
Post by: MotoRogers499 on April 16, 2014, 09:34:47 PM
Hahaha thats sick man! You have to post some pics when you're ready, id love to see how it turns out. Ive had an RCA dirt bike game awhile ago, the game is programmed into a set of plastic dirtbike handbars with throttle, clutch, everything. And you just turn the bars and the bike in the game turns. The game looked like it should have been from the 1990's gameplay/physics wise, but it was always a fun little game with the way it was controller and such. I would love to see a controller like this come out, but im not sure it will catch on or if i will ever use obe competetively. Its not like a racing wheel, motocross is hard to simulate, and i dont think i would stray from a controller, but it would be sick to see and use for fun. Good luck on it!

For the Razer, im about to order it right now. I just love the concept so much. I hope nobody in this community would think of it as cheating, because I don't want that kind of rep here. In real life, you have all the controls of the bike (brakes, shifter, clutch, kick start, throttle, etc) all accessible without pulling your hands off the bars (Unless you're Dungey at 2012 MEC) so i would think being able to do this in game without taking thumbs off joysticks to shif gears, use brakes, etc etc wouldnt be cheating. Im someone who likes to have things as realistic as possible, im sure most of the community knows this by now. So ill make sure to map the tear-off button to a ABXY button, don't you worry haha. I just like the idea of doing everything without stoping mid-lean/steer.

Also im SERIOUSLY tempted to get Goat Simulator.
Title: Re: Passing time
Post by: onlyonetone on April 16, 2014, 09:45:32 PM
When I first started playing mxs I used dual joysticks that way more buttons as a controller. I don't see it as cheating at all. Whatever you have access to. As long as you're not editing the config file its not really cheating.

I also plan to have a thumbstick next to the left grip for body lean. Should work out really well. Plus with the wheel setup right. I'll be able to use direct steer.

It works in theory. Plus just using a stick for the body lean is a lot easier then making it a full bike with real body lean.

Very interesting... Thanks for sharing. It doesn't look at all like an expected controller setup for bike simulations, but I suppose it could work to benefit if one took the time to get used to it. My buddy on MXS actually uses a setup similiar to this, he's pretty fast too! Ive never understood this, but now its explained I think it could work. Very cool.

Edit: JUST ordered my Razer Sabertooth, so it should be priority by the time Easter Weekend is over. Ill let you guys know how it is as soon as I can get some play time in.

Dude, fantastic job. Editing was smooth and creative. Also, I can never get my back wheel out like everyone was doing in the video.

Direct lean = on

Then back wheel will step out  ;)

I'll have to try that.

Load the heightmap in 3ds max (via a displacement modifier on a plane with 1025 polys) and you have your object.

Man I'd love to have the know how when it comes to 3d modelling and modding etc. I'd love to make an 84 kx 500 or one of my favorite bikes.. The 89 CR 250.. I can't wait for a template as I know how the skinning process works on this game already so at least I can contribute that way. Nice screenshot Chris :ok:

You have to model the entire bike. And from my understanding it doesn't have to be a set size. (Unlike the other game)

So we will be able to model out bikes to their real size and weight.  Pit bikes and pit tracks will be doable. From my understanding.

for the next project i buy potis from bodnar and also a board from him

i like to have a thump throttle for the clutch

and maybe 1 joysticks (analog sticks) on the left site from the handlebar for leaning the rider.

and on each site a kill switch for shiftig or sit dab.

That's is a stupid thing to say haha of course you have to model the entire bike haha no fairs are modelling shit for you these days hahaha. As long as we can move the origins which we can from my understanding anything is possible in terms of modelling.

Patiently waiting here too. The piboso team has been suspiciously tight lipped this week. Wonder if that means another delay or just that they are working overtime lol. All this waiting around allows one to come up with crackpot theories too easily! Either way, may 5th is fast approaching fellas.
