Bikes / Help with Wheels
January 18, 2020, 10:24:15 PM
I'd like to learn how to import wheels into the game and was hoping someone could give a bit of guidance.

I want to be able to create a tyre edf, but I haven't been able to find a template or tutorial that shows how to name the parts and arrange the hierarchy before conversion.

Tracks / Enduro Loop- 'Tarpeian Springs'
December 24, 2019, 05:15:10 AM
I've only found out about MX Bikes because of the Steam release and have been rushing through modding tutorials in order to work out how to create custom content.

This is the first map I'd like to share; 'Tarpeian Springs' is the result of an auto generated landscape (L3DT) and a random squiggly line which came together to form a natural terrain, single trail enduro loop.  There are a few obstacles and trees to negotiate, and a bit of custom scenery for character.  I think the track gets better after a few laps as the deformation makes it look better and starts to produce new lines.  It's a bit over 4kms long and a lap is about 5:40- it's a bit of a challenge to complete a lap without dropping the bike.  The replay TV cameras are in place as well.

I don't play online so I don't know if that works- I suspect it does.  I've only given it 6 gates because that seemed about right to me, and it wasn't really something I was focusing on.  That's easy enough to change if I do an update, although at the moment I'm very keen to move on from this project so I can continue to work on the old YZ465, and others...

Problems that I know about are that sometimes a 'long reset' will put you back at the first corner, and there's a few floating trees and objects not sitting right.

This has been an exercise in learning how to do everything I needed to do to get a track into the game without worrying about doing it well, so I guess it's a Beta...

It's not Motocross but hopefully there'll be a few guys out there that will enjoy this track!

Track Editing / Re: Enduro Track

Thanks! ...and I plan to add some duelling banjos to go with the sign!

Just a quick update, I've got the replay cameras in place so here's a video of a complete lap.

Some sections are a bit technical and deserve a bit of respect...

Track Editing / Re: Enduro Track

Smoothing out the terrain proved to to more frustrating than I thought it would be, so I took all the things I learnt from my first attempt and started a second track with a different heightmap...That was ok but thanks to a bunch of things going wrong it took a heap of time to get this track working!  Hopefully in the future I think I could get a track like this built in about a week; I wouldn't have to build the objects again and I'd be more careful with adding trees ( 1 mistake x 1000 = 1000 mistakes)!

I've still got to work out the track resetting, the reply cameras, and the UI stuff...there's also some adjustments that can be made with some things like the collision with the low poly tree that happens in the video. I'm hoping that a beta will be ready soon.

Track Editing / Re: Enduro Track

Thanks for the comments!

Still learning things as I go...I made a mistake with naming my trees and I need to rename/replace 1000 of them if I want collisions and shadows (don't use TRKCONC for shadows).  I do have a section with a log but it's kind of like hitting the map limit in motocross madness...Does anybody know what tyre obstacles are named? I'm using TRKCONC at the minute.

Thanks for the gaussian blur advice!  I'll make a mask so it will only apply to the track texture to encourage riders to use the track without discouraging taking different lines.  The deformation system really helps with building the 'final' track.  I tried making changes to the heightmap before and failed but I'm guessing now that's because I didn't reset the map...

Track Editing / Enduro Track
December 01, 2019, 06:35:42 AM
I took a look at a few tutorials and thought I'd try to build a track using L3DT.  It's an Enduro style track on natural terrain, and thanks to the deformation effect the track gets better after every lap...Here's a video and a few screenshots of where I'm up to.

Bikes / Re: WIP Yamaha YZ465 (1980)
November 30, 2019, 12:00:37 PM
Thanks for the comments- like I said before I couldn't have worked it out without the tutorials and information on the forums!

I had a go at doing the sound for it but it's kind of hard to get right- I got some ok idle and low sounds off my IT 465 but it takes longer than my neighbours could tolerate to warm up properly to get a decent top end sound.  I'm guessing but I don't think an IT revs like a YZ anyway.  I'll try again just as soon as the bush stops burning, which could be next winter...

I'd really like to get the physics right, that's on the list right after trying to build a track and working out the animation for a twin shock, and getting a helmet model would be in there too.

Bikes / WIP Yamaha YZ465 (1980)
November 29, 2019, 01:38:25 AM
Yamaha's big bore motocrosser from 1980/81.

A big thanks to all the guys who do tutorials and answer questions on the forums- I've had a lot of questions for the search engines and made it this far.  Still got a long way to go but I thought I'd share a video and a couple of screen shots of where I'm up to...

Thanks very much- there's a long way to go but I think it's going to be a fun project.

Thanks for the offer iNsane,  I was trying to get a bit more of an idea of what was going wrong so I could ask the right questions when I found a solution!  Basically I followed through with the template instructions but transfered the compiled edf over to one of the unpacked vanilla bikes, making sure the four parts could be found...

Anyway, another screenshot, and plenty of work to go...

Bikes / Bike Template
November 10, 2019, 07:41:00 AM
I've only had this game for a week and it's great! I'm keen to add some mods but I've been having a bit of trouble getting stuff to work.  I can get my bike into the game but it crashes a couple of seconds after I'm about to take control...which is the same thing that happens when I follow the instructions for getting the bike template into the game.  Is the template out of date?  Also, is there a wheel template available because I'd like to be able to build drum brakes...

I'm going to have a bit of a break before going through all the steps again.  I tried a few other approaches and managed to get a screen shot, so that's something I guess!
