Support / Performance issues on laptop Nvidia GPU
September 11, 2017, 04:46:05 AM
I have a laptop, specs below...

  • Intel i7 6700HQ @ 2.60ghz
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M
  • 8gb ram
  • Corsair SSD
  • 1080p display

This laptop plays most modern games a reasonable settings, and using Nvidia control panel i can select whether any game uses the Integrated Intel graphics or the dedicated Nvidia graphics. Obviously the Nvidia graphics result is massive performance improvements for almost all games.

I just installed MXB again after months of not playing. Last time I played it was on my old crappy laptop, I was excited to see how smooth i could play using this better machine. I was shocked to find i was getting about 20fps @ 1080p using the Nvidia card on my new laptop! I put ALL settings to their minimums including changing the resolution to 720p and it still sits around 20fps.

I thought id test the integrated Intel gfx but i was not expecting much from them. But in fact I got a reasonably steady 60-70fps on the intel gfx!

Whats going on with this? Is this purely an NVIDIA driver issue? Have other people had issues with mobile Nvidia GPU's? Is there a work around so I can crank up the settings and get MXB looking half decent again?

I dont think there is a real BEST setup for this sim.

The first few hours I didnt think id EVER be able to ride. Didnt feel like there was enough buttons on the pad, Ive been playing this for ages now, and I still am not 100% happy with my controls.

just try whatever feels right for you imho

BTW, i personally think the DSQ rules should be altered, because if you accidentally hit the gate or turn your bars too much you get DQ'd, and it does not affect the riders around you or your start.

100% agree

Hi guys, I'm new there, will try the beta 4 soon. I tried the very first release long time ago.

Here is a mirror PiBoSo, on a premium medafire account long time supported : http://www.mediafire.com/download/ck3gvdtywxx8682/mxbikes-beta4.exe

hey welcome

A lot has changed in the handling since you probably tried it then.

You should be happy with the changes, they really have made a huge difference

@arnzz I know what you mean but the track is super one lined anyway so having those braking bumps on that flat turn does add a separation from the novices to experts. I personally like that turn as it promotes throttle control, honestly keep practicing that turn and it will help you out hugely on similar turns on other tracks. But I always got inside on that turn so.I guess and outside been would be ok but does anyone even use that line? Haha

Yeah I guess you have a point there. And no, ive never used the outside line apart from if i over shoot lol.

My throttle control using gears is getting much better now, so im more happy with that turn that I was using auto :)

Are we able to swap Trainer files? I think this would be amazing, if I could download or swap a Trainer file with some of the fastest guys, so I can see the lines they take.

I think that would be an awesome addition to this site, or even MXB Central, to have a section to download other peoples trainer files :)

What times are people getting with the 2stroke on Forest? Im getting ~50 seconds

This is coming from someone who doesn't ride irl so what im asking for is just what I like and not based in reality.

The only thing I would have on Forest that isn't there now is a berm, on the corner at the bottom of the final downhill, i always feel like that breaks my flow as I have to inch around that corner.

I've never ridden a MX bike irl, or spent any time in MXsim.

and my setup for MXB has always been auto gears, with rider ALWAYS standing.

Ive gone to manual gears now, and this is a massive help, and ive also noticed the difference going from sitting to standing at the right time can massively help with jumps.

But I wanted to know when everyone else uses sitting? Is it in all the turns? do you shift weight backwards while sitting as well?

Having just moved to manual gears im struggling to feel the intricacies of using sitting and to notice when its really helping, other than the obvious which is to improve jumping.

i use a 360 pad, Y= Upshift and B=Downshift. Manual is the only way to be consistent IMO, i hit that section in 2nd probably 3/4 throttle, once i take off i and upshift to 3rd midair then land wide open for the next jump. 250f that is.

Thanks, I tried the shifting into 3rd while in the air, and im clearing it every time now :)

Just have to spend some time using manual and ill be back on top again. Ive used auto for so long it feels so alien to me having to focus on gears lol

@arnzzz

I had exacly the same problem when playing with auto gears. In the corner the bike switches back to the 1st gear and when you accelerate again you lose all your momentum when it has to switch again the the 2nd gear. I think I only cleared it once with auto gears. The same problem happens when you actually clear the 1st jump. Bike switches back to first gear while in the air and when you accelerate for the 2nd jump it has to switch to 2nd gear again and you don't get enough speed. I play with manual gears now and stay in 2nd gear for this section and I clear it almost every time.

Ive never used manual, I have just tried and  I think its the way to go.

But Im having issues coordinating all my fingers on the controller lol. Ill persevere though as i can see the obvious benefits.

how is everyone finding the final downhill section on Forest?

I am struggling with it, mainly taking off the first jump on the right hand side of the track and not being able to get enough distance to land it.

I have cleared it and landed probably 5 times, but its hard, and I dont know what im doing in the bike setup enough to change the ratios to get extra speed when i need it most for this jump.

Ive come to the conclusion, my hang up is the fact im using auto gears so I dont have enough control when i most need it.

also im just not very good ;)

any advice?

Ive just spent half hour on the supermoto, and i wasnt really looking forward to that, but for me that thing has blown my mind. Its bloody hard to keep the bike up when you get the back end out, but I se moments of brilliance from time to time, I can only imagine what some of the best guys here can do with that thing after a few weeks of practice.

I can se people doing the whole track with the back end out the whole way :)

I hope this encourages some more MX sim guys over, I think the back end was a big turn off for them wasnt it?
