There a few factors that can result in weird shading errors.

1. Base poly flow (both on the low poly model + highpoly model). If the polyflow is odd it will provide weird results all around. A clean and flowing mesh will provide good bakes and unwrapping, so if its off it can cause a huge headache.

2. When you bake to a low poly model, you want to ensure the low poly is already triangulated. Sometimes if you bake it to a quadrified mesh, and you import it into a game engine, the game will auto triangulate the model. Now it could retriangulate it differently then what you baked it too (although it displays a quad, 3D programs still form meshes in triangles even you can't see it). Now, normals are specific to a mesh face, so if the triangles are different it can look weird.

3. The bake cage. Not sure how blender works, but in 3DS Max you have a cage that contains your 2 meshes. (Low poly + High poly) The cage is like the "out of bounds" for the baking rays. It's tough to describe, but basically the tighter the cage is around the models the more accurate the bake. If part of the mesh passes through it, it will just not have normal information there which is no good. So you gotta find that happy medium of getting it as close as possible but not to close. In max you can manually adjust this cage.

4. So if the model is good, no probs, and the bake is setup correctly then it could be channels. Oh snd another thing, you cant not rotate a baked normal map. Thats a no no as well.

Normal maps are awesome, they can do amazing things. Take it from aguy who baked every single part on his bike, man its a headache if something is not looking right.

Marmoset Tool Bag 2 is a cool program to view a model in a video-game like engine without having to setup a render or using the shitty view port visuals.

That's what I used for viewing my progress on my Honda before I had it in the game engine.

When I say same mentality, I mean your attitude and respect towards creators. There is no understanding, only narrow views and assumptions. Believe it or not a lot if people are "for the community" over at the mxs community as well. Ironically, those are also the usual people who don't actually contribute and don't actually give a shit about anything or anyone but their free content.

I can also tell you that m121c is pretending to be mature in here. His avoidance, name calling and politic-baiting tactics are on full display elsewhere. Lecturing people all over the place about justifying the steep cost of content.

PizzaChet (should I refer to you as TeamHavocRacing instead?), you still bitter about the roasting you got on the sim forum? I'd probably be mad too if someone half my age made me out to be fool, I understand.

Funny how you changed your name for this forum.. Yet still try to put out insults and false accusations about me. Now who's the one pretending to be mature? How hypocritical of you to call me out for avoidance, if I remember right that was your exact tactic in our discussion prior to this. Huh, funny.

Have a nice day "PizzaChet"

OK after a long reflection, trying to put myself in everybody's shoes and try to understand the situation from everybody's point of view.

Firt of all, i want to thank all of you for your support and for stand behind me all long. i don't want money from any of you... i don't care about money. i really, really appriciate it and that's prove that the mxb community is the best i ever seen so far. OK, it's kind of new... but i'll fight to keep it that way for sure. I never saw that much respect in a community. That's why i want to apologie for my first comments.... Lot of fck and shit and... It's pretty hard to explain myself in another language...  swearing is the easy solution. I'm not that kind of person.

I can't believe how Jay and m121c just makes some "rules" to justify what are they doing. Just for you to know, m121c made a honda (one of the best model i ever seen)
He's selling it 100$. ONLY JM AND PSD. 100$ without a model. Yeah you hear me well.

i'm not going to listen a bunch of hustlers who are just killing there own game. (what am i saying ? they don't even play it...!)

I've been throught different state. First, hanger obviously. i was close to release all this shit all over the internet to give Jay a good reason to cry. But i'm not a dick. He is.
After that i was just sad to see how they can justify themself this way with some shitty argument and it drive's me crazy to see how they feel superior about them self. they are not afraid of anything that's just crazy.

Also if by allot you mean a few hundred- please re access your view of allot of money
What kind of fuck can even say something like this. Do you vote Trump...?

Anyway, i made my descision. the link will remain. On MXBC or not, the bike will be accepted on servers or not, but it will for sure remain and be disponible and updated for MXB riders.

Once again thank all of you guys. But i'm gonna stop importing bikes for now. We have enought ^^ I'm just gonna make some gears and tracks...

Enjoy the kawi

Don't bring U.S. politics into anything if you don't live here... you get your information most likely from our media and what you see on facebook... if you actually lived here you would know basing any type of bias based off of those sources is the most ridiculous thing you can do. I won't publicly announce who I support because it's not anyone's business but my own. Not sure why this election is such a big deal to people who don't live here.. not to mention the "split" it has caused. Apparently it's a question of intelligence if you support another candidate not that same as another individual? Alright enough politics, this will go no where.

Moving on, I'm defending an artists work. There is no written moral statement saying it's wrong for someone to sell their hard work. However, in my eyes, you are a completely wrong if you find it okay to takes someones hard work and pass it along to an entire community when it's not their wishes, not to mention it's a clear form of pirating. How you don't see that being wrong... I have no clue.

You all are hell bent to be better than the MXS community but you half ass drag all of that communities content over here. I've been apart of this forum for awhile, just hardly jump into conversation.. and I can already tell the mentality is the same as the community over at MXS. Good luck!

You are right, it is a grey area. You are opening a can of worms full of confusing issues and technicalities. It's not as black and white as in "He is selling a KTM model replica that's illegal". There are many ways around the controversial issue, and for the most part that is why companies barely even bother with it. As well as the legal hassle, for a market so small it's not worth their time. We could honestly debate for days on whether or not it's legal but it will not get anywhere, it will still be the same can of worms.

There is no grey area with illegally distributing digital content though, you are either guilty or you are not. No way amount of tricks or wording can be done there.

It's just a misunderstanding on what has been sold: Stone though he had bought a 3d model, Jay though he had sold the right to use the 3d model in MXS (and only in MXS).

You couldn't be more wrong with that. It's not that he thought he was selling the right to MXS only model. The problem here is Stone bought the bike and imported into MXB not for HIS sake but to share with the MXB community. He is distributing it to all of you, a paid model, that none of you bought. In my eyes that is the issue.

I get Jay's personal feelings on wishing the model was not in a game engine it was not intended for, but he knows just as well as I do you have no control over that.

Hate MXS and it's creators... yet everyone is so persistent import the content from there, and act as if they did so much work. Find that kind of funny.

Anyways, those who think it's a right to distribute another creators content just because they purchased it is sadly mistaken and has no knowledge as far as a creators rights to their content. A creator can release content free and that STILL doesn't mean you can do as you please with it if it's filed under the correct creative commons license.

If you have bought the model and put in a different game for yourself, by all means no one says you can't, but it gets really muddy when you then take the model you purchased and then freely distribute that model in a different game. That is a form of pirating. If I buy photoshop and develop a crack and then upload it to piratebay for all, that is a legal offense and is wrong.

"I paid x amount for y digital product I'm gonna do what I want" is a terrible outlook. Like I said, you can do what you want with your purchase within bounds legally and morally, if you want to take your purchase and but into a different game for yourself than by all means go ahead. Why do you think Piboso and JLV (mxs dev.) do not want imported content from games such as MVA and MXGP being released publicly? Because it's legal vulnerability. Point, just because you bought the game does not give you the right to distribute.

Plain and simple, if you want to avoid all this and the mxs community mentality, it's best someone around here starts to make 100% new content. It's the only way to avoid problems, good luck.

Although I will commend a majority of you, I can see the discussions around here are a bit more mature and controlled then MXS. That is nice.

I am so done with this!

It takes a lot of work (even a "ripped" model) to get into this sim.

Let if fly! Let it go!

I will say just because you buy something doesn't give you right to distribute. HOWEVER, it's like movies. If you buy it and copy it you can't SELL it, but not to say you can't distribute for FREE to whoever ;)

I would like to argue it doesn't take more than a 1/10th of how much work it takes to make a complete bike. I would know, I have done both, have you?

By the way, your thinking on the movie industry is childish and low if you ask me. That type of thinking is just as worse as distributing illegally, it's called pirating and has ruined digital content based businesses. So technically yes, there is something saying you can't. It's called being a decent human, having ethics, and follow the pirating/copyright laws. Take it from the MXS community, your community will not thrive with that view.

I can see Jay being a little upset, but at the same time I don't see a problem with it. You have taken measures to ensure it isn't ripped and you haven't released the premium paid content. Would have been cool if you have give him a heads up, but that's not required obviously. Just one down fall you have to accept when you sell game-ready content, and why I never let just anyone have my obj files. Hey at least you gave the right credits.

I know this isn't the place for this but since the topic is rolling I thought why not throw my 2 cents in. I bought the game when it was first available to to do so, just to support the devs. Here are my reasons to as why I have barely picked up the controller to play this game since.

1.) Velcro Effect - I feel you are way to connected to the ground. It's funny MXS makes you feel as if you are riding on a solid object and have no real connection/dampening to the ground, but MxB has way to much of that.

2.) Animations - Personal preference bu they are down right annoying to see, and I know this is being addressed.

3. Overall Feeling - I just don't feel like I am riding a real dirt bike at all. I've said it before, I feel like I'm riding a street bike. You can point out I haven't given it much time but when I played MXS for the first time I still had this dirt bike feeling, and it only made me want to keep playing even though it was frustration because the more I got that "feeling of riding" the more I wanted to play. MxB just doesn't have it yet imo.

4.) Controls - To many controls to fit on my controller imo and even though you can manually change assign multiple buttons (Just figured this out) in the settings, with out it I would literally start the game up, try setting up my controller and just instantly close out.

5.) Mods - As Mace pointed out, the lack of info of getting things in game properly is painful. I'm not a gp bikes guy, never even looked at, so why would I expect the Wiki to be there and not here? Although broken, the mxs community thrived off of the custom content.

These are just a few of my opinions about it, and I feel that is a big reason this game hasn't taken off hugely. Don't get me wrong, I have my own negatives on mxs and I'm open mined to both games, so there is no fan boy opinion of either game. I keep seeing post's about how this game is more realistic physics wise, but how can it truly be accurate if you can't even ride supercross or hit a roller at and angle with out being thrown the opposite direction?

I apologize for the harsh feedback... I really do like what is going on here and I think it's good for mx gaming. Good job so far to the Dev team, and keep up the hard work!

I wouldn't say I am really new to "modding", that Honda that I posted, I can actually say is mine... Idk what communities/games you are from, but even in real life, stealing someone else's work without permission and "re-working" is frowned upon. It would be fine if it was released free content, but those helmets are from a game that gave you no right to them. Kinda like stealing the art off the wall from the art show and then claiming it to be yours. You get it?

I wasn't meaning official content, I was meaning content that isn't ripped from others.

You did make it sound and look like they were yours. Stolen work is not a good way to get new content... and it being from a major title could have some repercussions legally. It's just not a good thing.

Wait patiently and the new content will come.

Helmet brands :

- AGV
- Airoh
- Arai
- Axo
- Just1
- Lazer
- One
- ProGrip
- Scorpion
- Scott
- Shoei

Goggles are just a texture on the helmet, so you'll be free to choose your favorite one :)

And yes, it's TC's helmet on the screen  :D
I can see you've already ripped the Airoh from MXGP. Are you actually going to make any helmets of your own or just use other peoples work?

Agreed, stealing other artists work and putting your name on it with a quick stroke PS layer effect isn't going to make it yours, so don't claim it to be yours.

Bikes / Re: Importing Models HELP!
October 16, 2014, 04:45:54 AM
Yes if you inverted them original you need to re-invert them. For normal maps to look good in MXS you need to flip the Red and Green channels, re-invert them for MxB.

If you are trying to use a model made for mx simulator you have to remember to re-invert the normal map as well. Remember the norm on sim is -X and -Y for whatever reason.

After I posted that I thought about exactly what you just pointed out. As the "endo" situation is being used in this discussion I will use it as an example. When the bike endo's you don't push on the bars to lean back, you don't push on the pegs to get to the back of the back. The bike is already in forward motion, you simply just let it hit you in the ass while you keep her pinned to guild to try riding it out.

It would be impossible to control this I would think, the fact your body does so much when you riding, absorbing, anticipating, leaning, etc.

Now I will have to disagree with you with the "point the bike in the right direction" you don't steer with the bars, maybe at low speeds but when you are in a rut, a berm, a sweeper, you are leaning. Your entire core (center of gravity) and legs are doing all the work.

Not to be harsh on the criticism, I know they have stressed the physics are rough right now but I just don't have that feeling of riding a dirtbike at all, it still feels like gp bikes on a mx track. The thing that has made mxsim so much of success is that feeling that you are riding a dirtbike. Lets be honest, it doesn't have any bells and whistles to it and very controversial community to go along with it, but it is a success because it feels like mx. It'll get there I believe, the game has tons of potential, I just feel it needs to be looked at in it's own entity and not as a sister of GPB.

15
I agree you cant compare GPB to MXB, as i said before you are going to have to let the two gsmes be their own game, if not MxB will not become a succesful sim imo.

Everything on a dirtbike is in your core, your center of gravity, if you endo a jump what is the first thing you see someone do? They lean back moving their center of gravity. All your hands and arms do are hang on to the bike and work the controls on the bars. Watch video's on how Villopotos style on the bike and you will understand, hes a perfect example on how mxbike is ridden. And as you would imagine the way a top mx rider rides a dirtbike is completely diffrent then a top gp racer rides their street bike. Simply putting a gp bike on a mx track will not work and really that is what it feels like right now, sorry to be harsh about it.
