Bug Reports / Re: Slicks on dirt = great!

Thanks for the explanation and the heads up. No way I'm going to be able to resist playing around with it though.  Lol.

Bug Reports / Slicks on dirt = great!
November 28, 2018, 05:47:29 AM
Too great.  Almost 100% traction, can punch the throttle repeatedly with no ill effects. I see that Dx1 has been roughly halved in the MX tires.  Does this have something to do with the added knob/bulldozing lines at the bottom of the file?  Is there any explanation of these added lines and any other tire changes that have been made?  Trying to get a dirt track bike figured out, but the tire is kicking my ass right now.

General Discussion / Re: MX Bikes beta7

Nice work on the update. Much much better on the ground. Still feels lost in the air. Not sure if that's me or the game though. Spent a good 2 hours hotlapping around Mantua and watching the replay. Much fun was had.

Tires seem right to me, for dry sliding friction. Asphalt, blue groove. The dirt needs to do more work in providing traction when it is appropriate though. Loam, sand... You have to be way cautious on the throttle in the sand, and that's just not how it is in the real world. Either need to come up with a way to have track surfaces provide additional grip (laterally) or need to start fudging it in the tire file somehow. Different slip calculations for each surface type in order to simulate the soil types individual properties.

as much as I read about all the stuff from MXS, I am half-tempted to say just don't use any damn thing from there because the bullshit will come whether things are done right or not..you can bet on it.

I´m with this aswell, it´s sad to see how things went there.  :(
MXBikes and MXSIM communities are different species ;) MXBikes has a more mature community in this moment.

YEA!!  BAN ANYONE WHO HAS A COPY OF MX SIMULATOR!!!  THEY ARE ALL TERRIBLE PEOPLE!!!

Bug Reports / Rim stiffness
March 12, 2016, 07:34:24 AM
It would seem to me the game isn't simulating a rim, just a large rubber tire.  On hard landings you can watch the tire compress much further than the rim/tire should allow.  Is this a slow ground collision detection, or is the rim missing?

Anywho, the result is the crazy bounces we see when not landing jumps perfectly, either coming up short or going long.

Uh oh. Did your sarcasm wrapped in cynicism inside snark get crickets again? I got it, but they need to develop calluses first. Go easy.

Crickets?  I'm always too busy laughing at my own jokes to hear them.

PiBoSo edited out my idiot comment.  :(  For the record it was just a joke, I was like 90% sure Havoc would get it.  I'll be sure to use more smiley's next time. 8)

Suggestions and wishlist / Re: Online Bike Selection

It doesn't work that way because your bike information has to be sent to all the other players, and it's a lot to load, it can't be done on the fly.  That's why temp models are used when someone loads into the server and you are on the track.

It is not.  Although the rejoin process could be automated, allowing you to choose a new bike in the server, and click load bike or whatever, and then disconnect you and rejoin the server automatically.

Physics / Re: Bike not sliding on its own?
March 03, 2016, 12:22:13 AM
I'd be interested to see how that works out.  With the bike I'm building the slide when off power comes from a combination of engine braking and rear brake, although in the real world it can be done w/o brakes.  I'm pretty sure pulling in the clutch and eliminating the engine braking would be a disaster, or at least bring the balance of the bike much further backwards, I've never wanted to test this theory out.  The way it works now you can slide it in decently on the brakes, but the rider isn't turning as much as he could be, he looks like a beginner.  I think it would be better if he rode to the front tire's capacity because in most situations that is the limiting factor.  As I've said having the rear tire track outside or even with the front tire is the key to speed on a motorcycle, I would consider it crucial that the virtual rider master this technique.

When you slide a bike in real life, either on power or brake, you shift your body weight as far over the front wheel as you can manage. This stops unwanted wheelies, and gives you far more control determining where you want to go.

No you don't, especially in my case.

Physics / Bike not sliding on its own?
March 02, 2016, 08:22:04 PM
Terrible topic name, I know.

The bike I'm working on should slide the back tire laterally before the front when turning. If feels like the rider only leans over far enough to get near the rear wheel sliding point, but won't lean any further even though the front tire should still have plenty of grip left. I've tried some ridiculous front tire settings but the behavior is still the same. Am I missing something in the physics, or is this how the rider handles this situation? If so can it be adjusted or tuned at all?  If not how much do I have to raise in a Kickstarter to fund it?

I tried embedding a video using the flash code, but I can't seem to format it right. How do you embed videos?

Quote a post that works. Edit your URL in. It doesn't use the "watch?v=gHGgfUDVa" code. Just YouTube.com/v/videocode.

Sounds like the server remembered your lost connection and was loading you in as that.
