Tracks / Widowmaker
September 30, 2022, 05:22:33 PM
Since the MXB Mods website is down for maintenance I wanted to post the direct download link for Widowmaker here in case anyone was looking for it.
*2nd link is ONLY for server hosting purposes.

This was a co-design with my best friend Heatwave that took us a little over one year to complete.  Mainly because we were busy with real world work and family.  A 3D lidar scan data of a real track in Spain was used but we heavily modified some sections/scaling to make it more fun in Bikes and opted for a wasteland desert theme.

Special thanks to Gdub for play testing and hosting a live stream release on his YouTube channel (PLEASE subscribe for excellent MX Bikes content).

Thanks to SmokinJo & Nike for play testing many versions and the Fast Fridays guys.  Also, shout out to Kraken for his track helper tool, without it the process would be much more complicated.

Tracks / AK Farms MX 2013
May 18, 2021, 06:49:45 AM
Here's my 1st track release for MX Bikes. AK Farms was a popular local cross track in New York state that closed down circa 2015.  This rendition was created from 2013 lidar data with several sections reimagined for MX Bikes. There are 40 gates (2 rows of 20/ea), which should make for some chaotic fun. All feedback is welcome and will be utilized if an update is needed.  Hope you enjoy!

Shout out to Heatwave, SmokinJo & nike23 for play testing and lot's of constructive criticism during the build process ;) . Also want to give credit to Ruubs & Resolute Kraken for quickly responding to my noob questions on Discord. Lastly, thanks to PiBoSo & Snappe for continual development of such a great game.

Any chance of getting more variety of weather conditions? Right now there are just 3 and 90% of the time servers run Clear.  Really would be cool to have some options like Partly Cloudy, Scattered Clouds, Overcast, etc.  Also, is sun position for time of day set by the track maker or is this something that could be added as a selectable option in the weather menu?  Being able to romp around early morning, late afternoon or even at night (using moon only for light projection) would add another level to the experience.

Thanks!

Just wondering why this happens?  Instead, most riders will have default black/grey colors.  Then you join a different server and everyone is fully outfitted with custom stuff.

Tks

Why is it even possible to DNS at the gates?  For vets of the game you learn quickly to not jump start.  However, it is extremely frustrating in multiplayer when you have noobs getting a DNS, having to restart the race and explaining to them to not even touch their controller to avoid it.  The gates have collision so couldn't there be a way to simulate an early jump by getting hung up on the gate for a couple seconds?  In the interim it would be great if the DNS detection was disabled to avoid this headache.

Thanks!

Setups / Ruub's Control Settings Video??
March 03, 2020, 11:34:54 PM
Ruubs,

Since you're one of the best MXB riders I've seen I have to ask, what's the deal with the Rider L/R Lean being mapped to number pad 4 & 6 keys in your YouTube video? Do you have these mapped to specific buttons on your controller, perhaps Xbox Elite??  Just wondering if maybe digital input helps in some way with the 80% min/max smoothing setting (38 sec of video) to get quicker response or something.

Thanks,

General Discussion / 3rd Person View Improvements?
December 12, 2019, 07:06:00 PM
I understand that the majority of players prefer either of the 1st person camera views, myself included. 1st person provides the best simulated look/feel of being on a bike and IMO is a far more exhilarating experience in MX Bikes. In fact, currently it's the ONLY way I can recommend anyone to play the game.  1st person is able to convey the feel of riding on the edge when really pushing the bike, especially when hammering the bike out of a corner.  That sensation of acceleration is superb!! Along with the incredible depth to the learning curve, this game beckons me to play every day.

Conversely, 3rd person does just the opposite :( . It almost seems like you are riding in slight slow motion.  Kind of like an old school racing game where the only cue between driving at high vs low speed at full throttle was the rate at which your surroundings were passing by IE: Road Rash, LOL. That's the best way I can describe this view mode.  I've been desperately trying to convince a group of "casual gamer" friends to purchase MX Bikes for a while now but more than half of them will only play in 3rd person.  Unfortunately, after trying the demo (some several times over the past few years), they just can't stand the 3rd person cam.  I don't know what can be done to improve the feel of this camera but I have to think it could result in a fair number of new sales for Piboso if the experience was even close to 1st person.

Suggestions and wishlist / Steam Workshop
November 13, 2019, 05:35:23 PM
Want to first say major props to Piboso and the wonderful mod creators.  Been playing MXB off/on since B5 but the current version is just wonderful :).  To the point that all I think about during the work day is getting home and running tons of laps.

Find myself following the Steam page reviews/discussions daily and one common topic that comes up is "where do I download tracks, bikes, paints, etc and how to install them".  I know that several users have kindly offered instructions, which is great and I truly appreciate the MXB-Mods website.  However, I think that the process may be frustrating for newcomers that aren't exactly PC savvy.  Hell, I'll admit that when I first start playing, having to wade thru pages of forum posts trying find a particular mod was never the most fun, especially after finally locating the post and discovering the download link was broken.

So..... my suggestion is for Piboso to utilize the Steam Workshop option for many reasons.
- It provides a centralized location to download all approved MOD content and the user doesn't have to venture outside of Steam.
- Any mod the user wants to install is a simple one-click add to the game, brain dead simple.
- The user is auto-notified of revision updates to any installed mod.
- Users can post comments for a mod, providing feedback for others and the mod creator.
- If a user attempts to join a server running mods they don't have, they can quickly install them from the workshop in a few minutes.
- Let the user choose drive and location of Mods folder to be used.  More on this below.

I know the recommended default mod installation process is to use the Mods folder under Documents.  However, this isn't the best solution IMO. It's still commonplace for PC's to have a smaller primary drive (OS and core software) and then larger secondary drive for storage/games.  Fortunately, I've found that you can install mods in the MB Bikes steam folder and this works perfectly.

Anyway, thanks again for this incredible game that provides so much depth.  For an old guy (51 ::) ) who started riding in mid 70's (1st bike was a 73' KTM 100 GS shared with two older brothers) slowly progressing in MX Bikes brings back fond memories from my youth.
