General Discussion / Re: [b15] Camera Thoughts
October 27, 2020, 03:23:55 PM
I can now recommend 3rd person to friends which previously was not the case.  Better sensation of acceleration/speed that was sorely needed.  As Sv3n noted, if you take a fall in a corner and are facing backwards when you reset, the camera will do some strange stuff rotating/stuttering as you turn around.  Pretty sure this has to do with the new heading changes.  Still, for the first time I was actually having fun running laps in 3rd person cam.

That said, 1st person is superb!!  The slight camera zoom in/out based on your rider positioning feels so damn good.

General Discussion / Re: [b15] Bike/Physics Thoughts
October 27, 2020, 03:07:42 PM
Only had about an hour last night to test beta 15 but by end of the session I found the new changes were very positive.  Felt like I had overall better control of the bike with far less derpy physics results.  The inertia changes really seemed to reduce the bounciness found in previous betas yet the bike control is still nimble.

Why is it even possible to DNS at the gates?  For vets of the game you learn quickly to not jump start.  However, it is extremely frustrating in multiplayer when you have noobs getting a DNS, having to restart the race and explaining to them to not even touch their controller to avoid it.  The gates have collision so couldn't there be a way to simulate an early jump by getting hung up on the gate for a couple seconds?  In the interim it would be great if the DNS detection was disabled to avoid this headache.

Thanks!

Media / Re: Mx Bikes - Helpful Things For You

Yo Gin, absolutely love watching your daily videos, always great riding.  But I have to ask what's up with the Reshade settings you're using?  Every single track looks like Sedona red rock with that over saturated hue.

Sweet, really appreciate the quick update to add gates!

If you do update the track please at least double the number of gates.  Had 20+ dudes trying to get into the same server last night to discover the track only had 12 gate slots.  We still ran a quick race and had a great time but this track beckons more riders on a 10 lapper because the terrain deformation works so well.

General Discussion / Re: Mod Directory Folder

I wouldn't, just change the Mods folder like the example below.  This will save a ton of drive space for custom stuff, notably the OEM bikes.  The Piboso folder in your docs will then only use minimal file space.

[mods]
folder=D:\Games\MX Bikes\mods

Suggestions and wishlist / Re: Washington Fences

Quote from: Resolute Kraken on July 11, 2020, 01:02:29 AMInstead of removing collisions - just fix the getting stuck in them.  Not everyone likes fake fences.

Exactly, I've always thought it was ridiculous that objects often have zero collision.  This goes for trees, tough blocks, fences, banners, etc.  Fix the collision error with the bikes and there won't be a need for "cosmetic" objects.

Tracks / Re: Cahuilla Creek MX

Great job!  Flows so well, can't believe this is your 1st track so hope to see many more from you.  BTW - watched several GoPro vids of the real track and the width looks pretty accurate to me.  GDUB's online races yesterday looked like everyone was having a blast.

As TFC noted, FOV options for 3rd person is sorely needed.  Something else I've suggested before in a similar thread would be a camera effect to help give 3rd person better speed sensation.  Accelerate = camera moves slightly further away from bike, Brake = camera moves close to bike.  If done correctly, how hard you accelerate or brake would translate to zoom in/out rate.  A racing game that did this very well was Driveclub.  It gave the sensation of gear changes, acceleration and braking using the subtle camera effects.

Here's a video that shows exactly what I've tried to describe above.

Quote from: WestSideWill763 on May 21, 2020, 12:51:50 AMthe layouts nice just all your straightaways suck u cant see the pits u put everywhere cause of it being sand so ide say either smooth things out so its rideable or make it a different texture so we can see each pothole we need to avoid its extremely hard to make it though constant irregular bumps on every straight

I don't know if he updated the track since this comment, but I had no problem seeing the bumps on the straights. They were all different shades from the flat spots and stood out pretty clearly to me.

Also, I highly recommend using Reshade if you have a decent video card.  You can greatly enhance the default, lackluster lighting in MX Bikes by applying a few post processing filters.

General Discussion / Re: MX Bikes beta14d
May 13, 2020, 04:45:28 PM
The online connectivity issues are seriously hurting MXB and need to be top priority:(.  Community members that are proactively attempting to support and grow the game are being impacted the most.  EX: watch the past two YouTube streams on Skooty Puff's channel linked below.  He hosts weekly MXB events, either elimination style or full race (practice, qualify, race) and has been doing so for months now. I've listed the main issues at the bottom of this post which are clearly depicted in the videos.
*Warning - verbal content can get a bit out there but love the guy:).

Drylands Elims b14c (go to 9:00 for start of riding)

Hill Valley b14d (go to 13:00 for start)

  • Connection Lag - Any time someone joins there is a noticeable lag delay felt by host and other players. *Noticeably worse after B14d.
  • Unstable Peer Hosting - Random crashes when host exits track to pits to make changes (session, bike, etc.)
  • Limited # of gates on outdoors - Should be default 40 gates on ALL tracks.  Currently, number of gates is different for each track resulting in much frustration with riders getting booted out of server when others connect.
  • Other riders pop in and out of view based on proximity to you. At minimum utilize ultra low LOD so other riders are always visible.

MX Bikes should be gaining big momentum during this pandemic time period but the aforementioned issues are preventing any chance of this happening IMO.

Amen to that please.
