Track Editing / Re: Thursday Night Motocross (PIR)

I thought id fixed it but haven't. In fact its one thing holding things up.

In fact im confused about one thing, whn I open my texture in an editor that doesn't support alpha transparency the background is black, when I open say pibosos grassfx texture the background is green which I think might help. Not sure how to achieve this in gimp though, tried searching for tutoriala but cant find anything. Guess it's called alpha bleeding but I don't know how to stop it.

As far as smoothing transitions... I think the only section that really needs it in my opinion is the rhythm section that follows the finish jump. I'm very consistent on the rest of the track myself. That section seems hard to stay smooth in, but dang it's satisfying to get through it clean.

Couple of things.. Don't get me wrong for a start (not that you have) this is constructive criticism not a dig  :) like you say the track is a lot of fun when you nail a section it feels great.

But.. just consider the triple on the 3rd straight. The launch angle is great and the jump feels good when you hit it right, but where the face connects to the ground there is a bit of a sudden angle change. This means if you hit the jump at a slight angle it throws the bike off in the opposite direction in a spin. If it had more of a smoothed transition to the floor it would allow you to leave the jump at a slight angle and leaning over. Same is true for the finish jump.

The sim is hard, but it's rewarding hard. I think considering just how difficult it is learning the sim to the point you can at least make the corners and half the track most of the time, then the jumps should be perfect. This would make it a) more realistic, as jumps IRL have very smooth transitions to the floor, and b) easier to ride and thus more accessible to a wider audience.. The two go hand in hand here.

I have been really enjoying this track and looking forward to the progress so keep it up man.  8)

Just a bit of constructive criticism, but you might need to smooth the transitions a bit more.

It's probably more noticeable now you have textures in place, but the transitions from ramp / landing to flat are pretty non existent, this is probably accounting for some of the difficulty in controlling the bike.

Might be worth trying compact soil, as I said I forget if it is compact soil or compactsoil or whatever, I think Snappe or PiB put a list up a while back.

I have the same problem. I sit putting down hundreds of laps on a track I'm working on and expect people to be able to run the same lines!

Saying that, it does demonstrate that with enough practice and learning, the track can be ridden in the way you demonstrate, which is one reason I like putting up videos of laps as you have done.

It's just using a base texture of the entire track repeated once, rather than mud texture repeated 50 times with a mask, so it shouldn't have any bearing on how the track handles... but it does seem SUPER slippy!

RC what track surface are you running on this track? i.e soil? compact soil? (I can't remember what they all are)

It is fun though, I've nailed the lines a couple of times and it's super satisfying when you do! It's just keeping it consistent. I definitely think from this example that SX is doable, just hard as balls lol

Great work man, looking really strong. Looking like this will be the first SX release, unless Snappe beats you to it, so good job!

Really wanna get some laps in on this!

I'm always the last to post on a page, that way noone will notice my content. :(

I would have posted my video in my thread but you suggested we keep it all in one place  ::)

In the spirit of keeping things in the right place, here is the latest teaser for TNMX..

Note: Objects are half finished. Cameras were done before objects so some need adjusting (last corner before finish cam is behind banners) Textures I'm still not sure whether I like or not.. But they will do for now!

While I'm not really excited for the enduro, it looks like it might be fun to master..

But just from one jump I can tell Archview is looking great!

Good job man, looking forward to it  8)

Yeah looking promising there rc, maybe start a thread would love to see progress.
I'm sorry, but why would you make a thread for every track? We two topics for progress already, the pictures and this video topic. Having a different topic for each track's progress wouldn't make this forum any clean. The way it is now is good IMO.

Although I haven't spent a lot of time there, I kind of like the way it seems to happen on the GP Bikes forum where you get a track thread, progress pics updates and beta downloads.. But fair enough  ;)

Wow teeds / PizzaChet, thanks a lot guys!

Thanks Gdub, not far off mate!

Pizza you been holding out on me there? lol Thanks man really appreciate it. Looks like a clean up day?

teeds real help man, made this in an hour thanks to your video captures!

Think it looks about right. Need to get normals though as in game 2 of the faces are the same shade and it's hard to look at. Haven't tried normals on objects yet so that will be fun..
