One more thing.. What's the difference between groove and deformation?

Groove builds up on asphalt / concrete only.

Ok..

So, last question. How did Mantua come pre deformed but so evenly deformed?

It doesn't have any pre-deformation (ie. a .dfm file). The top dirt layer has a normal map set at repetitions = 1 to make it visually look a bit rough.

Just wanna make sure. Normal map repetitions set to 1 means 1 normal map on the whole track? Or one normal map per dirt texture tile?

What I mean is:
texture repetition = 50
normal repetition = 1

is the amount of normal maps 1 or 50?

Wow, looking in Mapview it's definitely just one normal map.

How big is that? 8k?

Oh wow! If 8k works well I'm going to be happy haha

Just a guess, because when I tried this on Red Bud I did it with separate tiles and I think I used 4 at 2048 IIRC.

It's 4k

Wow.. Well good to know, you must have crammed a lot of detail into that! Thanks  ;)

Snappe please advise mate..

I've got my normal working really nicely in Mapview, but in game it seems to disappear. When I turn the textures right up it's almost become one solid normal, reflecting off the track like plastic.

Top: In game
Bottom: Mapview

Thanks :)

In fact, I've made the normal really strong, and it seems like in game it's being massively compressed and all the quality is lost. I have no idea how you got Mantua to look so amazing, and considering I can see those textures looking just fine in game I don't think it's my settings..

Are you sure the normal channels are correct?

If they weren't, would it look good in Mapview still?

Asdrael

I remember having issues with lightnening in mapview before (like the lightning source didn't exist, so you couldn't see when something was shiny). Might be that, not sure though...

I don't think it's that, as above, it looks amazing in Mapview.. Once I adjusted the intensity of the normal map, here is the result in game:

Looks nothing like the quality it shows in Mapview. Must have some setting wrong somewhere!! Please help..

That sure is strange... It should look the same ingame as in mapview. There is a bug where the normal map disappears when re-loading tracks without quitting mxb, but I guess that's not your problem. It might be related perhaps? What size is you normal map?
