Throttle not working

Aye, my friend recently purchased mx bikes, he was trying to use a controller to play but the triggers weren't working. At first we thought it was because he had a ps4 controller so he bought an xbox controller, turns out that wasn't the problem because it is still doing the same thing. Then we tried it on a different game and the triggers work perfectly fine. Anyone that has had this problem, or thinks they know the fix would be appreciated.
