SketchUp Profile Designed Jumps
« on: October 11, 2015, 08:43:35 PM »
I know at least a couple of people here use SketchUp..

I learned projected textures recently to get a texture on to my heightmap model so I knew where the track edges were, and while I was at it I figured out something else.

Years ago back on MCM2, my brother wrote me a program which converted a silhouette (profile) of a jump into a heightmap image. I shared it among the community and wish I still had it, it was simply called heightmap.exe and the only reference I can find to it now is (the bit in the middle with the silhouette and result). Seriously if anyone has a copy please link me up!

Anyway on to the point, I had a brainwave that a projected texture should be able to work the same and hey it does!

If anyone wants more info please ask and I'll put a proper tutorial together, but for now here's a preview of how it works. If not I'm sure this thread will drift off into the oblivion of the next page and be forgotten forever. Still no harm in sharing  ;)
